Nehro Odds to Win Belmont Stakes Race

To the surprise of many, Nehro was made the second favorite to win the 2011 Belmont Stakes race with +350 odds. 

"We have no excuses," said Nehro owner Ahmed Zayat. "We're very confident. He's ready. I'm seeing all the right signs. We have no excuses. We're going in very confident. I'm not saying that out of arrogance but out of what we're seeing."

Nehro did finish 2^nd at the Kentucky Derby while his camp elected to sit him out of the Preakness. 

Nehro was among the favorites to win the Derby, ultimate victor Animal Kingdom was not.  As such, it can be argued that Nehro underperformed in that race.

Some say time off following the Derby will work in Nehro’s favor.

“The Preakness was a huge temptation,” trainer Steve Asmussen said Thursday morning, after watching Nehro train on the Belmont Park track. “We talked about it considerably.”

One of the considerations for oddsmakers giving Nehro such a short price, none of the past five Belmont winners raced in the Preakness.
