Flashpoint Odds of Winning the 2011 Preakness Stakes

Flashpoint odds of winning the 2011 Preakness Stakes were set at 15/1 at SBG Global.  They were initially at 20/1.

His Hutcheson victory at Gulfstream was considered one of the top efforts by a 3-year-old this year.  He came in 4th at the Florida Derby.

One of the primary concerns related to Flashpoint is that he will be coming into the Preakness with a new trainer, and that is never an advantage at the Preakness Stakes.

“I’m expecting, not hoping for, a good showing,” owner John Fort said before heading to Baltimore to watch his first entry in the Preakness. “I didn’t say (Flashpoint) would win, but I do expect him to run well — and he could win. If he runs his race and saves ground . . . well, you never know.”

He’ll come into this race with 7 weeks off.

“He has been training extremely well at Keeneland on the synthetic surface, and I like the combination of training on synthetic and racing on dirt,” Fort said.

“The extra time (between races) should be beneficial. The Derby horses in the Preakness will be running their second hard race in two weeks and most of them aren’t used to that schedule. I looked at both races for Flashpoint, and I believe he has the best chance to win the Preakness.”
