After a strong 2022 campaign and an undefeated regular season and conference championship in 2023, Mike Norvell earned the Bear Bryant Award alongside a massive new contract extension.
Then, the bottom fell out faster than you can say FSU.
The slide began when the Seminoles were left out of the final four-team College Football Playoff, following a devastating leg injury to star quarterback Jordan Travis, and the program has been in a tailspin since.
Norvell sputtered to a 2–10 record (1–7 ACC) in 2024, followed by a 5–7 finish (2–6 ACC) in 2025. Florida State sat at 3–5 (1–4 ACC) this season before the brass at FSU chose to part ways with the head coach and absorb his massive $50.3 million buyout.
Will the administration target a legendary alumnus like Deion Sanders? Could they look to established head coaches like Jake Dickert or target elite coordinators like Glenn Schumann and Shannon Dawson? There is even speculation about whether Brian Kelly might be a candidate for one final high-profile move.
