Wicked Strong and General A Rod odds to win the 2014 Belmont Stakes were just shy of 6/1 and 23/1, respectively.

Wicked Strong’s odds had been slashed to 6/1 just hours prior to the start of the Kentucky Derby.

This Jimmy Jerkens-trained colt was seen as one that could run the distance and posed a serious threat as a closer.  He did finish 4th and skipped the Preakness Stakes.

Wicked Strong was, and still is, a sentimental favorite during this Triple Crown season carrying with it the message of “Boston Strong”.

Wicked Strong represents Boston with the promise to give 5 percent of the colt's Triple Crown winnings to victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.

General A Rod comes into this Belmont Stakes race as a huge long shot.

He won the Gulfstream Park Derby in January and was impressive in February’s Fountain of Youth and the Florida Derby in March.  At the Kentucky Derby, General A Rod finished an awful 11th place but did make some amends at the Preakness Stakes, finishing 4th (missing third by a head).

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
