With Algorithms out, Union Rags easily won Sunday’s Fountain of Youth and solidified himself as the favorite to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby.  WagerWeb.com had Union Rags as the even-odds favorite to win heading into Sunday’s race and those odds were shortened after it was determined Algorithms would not be contending.  Remember – you can bet on all the Derby Prep Races at WagerWeb.com and receive up to $1000 in FREE CASH, up to 13 percent cash bask and no social security number necessary for joining.

News Pending and Discreet Dancer finished second and third, respectively.

“I’m just so happy right now,” said Union Rags trainer Michael Matz. “It’s just great to be back.”

Starlight Racing's undefeated Algorithms, the early favorite, suffered a splint in his right front leg.

Jack Wolf of Starlight Racing and trainer Todd Pletcher both issued statements on the situation.

"It's disappointing," Wolf said. "Unfortunately, these things are part of the game, and we deal with them."

"The colt has been training beautifully," Pletcher said. "It's an unfortunate situation. We'll monitor him closely and see how he responds."

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
