Stay Thirsty

Stay Thirsty and Coil were both instilled as the Travers Stakes favorite for this coming Saturday’s big race.

Officially, Stay Thirsty came in as the 5/2 favorite with Coil listed very close behind at 3/1.  Coil was likely to alternate with Stay Thirsty as the favorite between now and the start of the race.

Haskell Invitational winner Coil was initially expected to be listed as the favorite coming into Saturday’s Travers Stakes.

Coil’s status for Saturday’s race was not determined until Wednesday.

TrainerBob Baffert’s complaining about the surface and a scratched right eye threatened to sideline Coil

"If he looks good tomorrow morning, we're definitely running him," Baffert said as he addressed a larger media horde back at the barn, hands tucked into the pockets of his navy quilted vest. "He got over the surface really well, the best he's gotten over it. The last couple of times he really struggled with it, and I was looking for a way out, but I didn't see that today."

Stay Thirsty won the Jim Dandy Stakes.  Stay Thirsty is winless in the five Grade 1 races he has competed in.
