Santiva Odds to Win Kentucky Derby

Santiva odds to win the 2011 Kentucky Derby were listed at 25/1 or +2500 at BetED.com.  He will be racing from the number 12 spot.

Trainer Eddie Kenneally: “The 12 is a perfect spot. We’re very happy where we’ve drawn. We were looking for something in the middle of the gate and we got it. We do have some speed horses outside of us like Soldat, Shackleford and Uncle Mo, so we’ll likely fall in behind them. All in all, it’s perfect.”

Santiva finished second in his seasonal debut in the Grade 2 Risen Star.

While Santiva did win a Grade 2 at Churchill Downs last year, that remains his only victory to date.   He was also a beaten favorite at the Blue Grass, though some have argued he was not given a fair chance in that race.

“He had just a terrible trip with no running room at Keeneland in the Blue Grass,” trainer Eddie Kenneally said. “He didn’t get everything out of the race like we would have liked. But he was fit going into the race, so we’ll be fine. He’s plenty fit.”

All-in-all, Santiva has had a slow three-year start.

Santiva will be ridden by jockey Shaun Bridgmohan.
