This past weekend, Tizway won the Whitney Invitational Handicap with 6/1 odds as Flat Out and Giant Oak were both favored ahead of him. His past record at the Whitney did not instill a whole lot of confidence in oddsmakers and gamblers alike.
Rajiv Maragh rode Tizway to victory as he caught the pacesetter Friend or Foe before the quarter-pole and opened a two-length lead with a win in 1:52.43 for 1/8 miles.
The win automatically qualifies Tizway for a spot at the upcoming Breeder’s Cup Classic in November.
Trainer James Bond said: “He will run in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. (Oct. 1 at Belmont) and then the Breeders’ Cup Classic. I’m as confident going 1¼ miles as I was going 11/8miles coming here today.”
Favorite to win the Whitney, Flat Out, is expected to meet Tizway once again in the Gold Cup.
