Fort Larned was the winner of this year’s Whitney Handicap.

trainer Ian Wilkes worked Larned five furlongs in 1:01 Monday at Churchill Downs and again on Tuesday before shipping his horse off to Santa Anita.

“I wanted him to gallop out an extra couple furlongs,” Wilkes said. “It was a good work. The track looks a bit dead.”

“He galloped out really well, all the way back to the far turn,” Hernandez said. “We let him off a little faster today and he finished up really good. Looks like he’s on point and ready to go.”
