He wiped out California Chrome’s dream of taking the Triple Crown.  Can Tonalist win the Breeders Cup Classic and prove he’s the real deal in 2014?

Since winning the Belmont Stakes, Tonalist has finished among the top three in his last three races including a win at the Jockey Club Gold.  At better than 5/1 odds, Tonalist is an excellent value.

This is a horse that has already demonstrated he can run the distance and he’s starting from the lucky number 11 post again.  That’s where he started in the Belmont Stakes.

Christophe Lorieul, assistant to Tonalist trainer Christophe Clement had this to offer regarding the post: “His post is not a big deal. He won the Jockey Club Gold Cup from post eight and won the Belmont from post 11 so it should all work out fine. It is much better for him to break from this post than to start from anything more inside. The race is a mile and a quarter, so there is plenty of time for the jockey (Joel Rosario) to work it out and get him into position. He is a big horse so you don’t want to be in a situation where you have to take him back or send him early. He comes from off the pace, so we just want him to be in the best position and have the best opportunity to run his race.”

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
