Tale of Verve Stunned many with his second place finish at this year’s Preakness Stakes and many believe that he can beat American Pharoah based on the performance.

A deeper look and we find that he lost by seven lengths.

Still, he’ll come into this one a bit less exhausted having not run the Kentucky Derby. Jockey Gary Stevens, who rode Tale of Verve at the Preakness, had a 2nd place finish riding Firing Line at this year’s Kentucky Derby, it should be noted.

Tale of Verve trainer Dallas Stewart said he is feeling good about his entrant.

"We've been good, but we've got to get it done. We've got to march over there and get it done," Stewart said. "I think he's a horse that's really bred for the distance. He can take it. He's got the stamina, he's got the pedigree. I think he's got the ability, so it's going to be a real good race for him. I'm feeling real good about it."

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
