This is one of the most important prep races leading up to the Kentucky Derby.

The Grade II race is run on dirt, left-handed and features qualified three-year-olds with a purse of $500,000.

Favored to win this year’s Tampa Bay Derby is Carpe Diem.

Carpe Diem has not raced since finishing second to Texas Red in the Grade I $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile on Nov. 1 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif.

J.B. Orem, co-trainer of Carpe Diem had this to say about their beloved horse: "We're so behind this horse that we've already bought tickets to the Derby.”

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
