FanDuel Allegedly Used Bryce Harper To Prey On Gambling Addict Who Lost $1.5 Million On Bets

Thursday July 9, 2026 (1:27 pm EDT)

Earlier this year, both Christopher Sage and Terry Thompson filed a lawsuit in Pennsylvania that accuses the NFL of playing a role in the problematic habits they developed while gambling on DraftKings and FanDuel.  Now we are hearing that Thompson lost $1.5 million betting with FanDuel, and all the while, the company allegedly encouraged him to keep betting more.  Not only did they assign him a VIP manager to work with him on his bets, but they also gave him exclusive perks such as bottles of champagne and Super Bowl tickets.  They even sent Thompson a personalized video from Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper.  “I just wanted to hop on here and wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving,” Harper says in the video. “Tell (Thompson’s son) I said hello. I appreciate all the support through the years.”

Judge Rejects Kalshi Attempt to Override New York State Gambling Laws

Thursday July 9, 2026 (1:22 pm EDT)

Kalshi lost an attempt to override New York’s state gambling laws yesterday, with a federal judge rejecting the prediction market operator’s request to prevent enforcement of the rules.  Kalshi is appealing the decision to a higher court. This is one of numerous cases in which judges must decide whether state laws are preempted by federal regulation of prediction markets.  New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James issued a joint statement on the ruling today. “New York’s gambling laws are designed to protect consumers,” they said. “Kalshi tried to ignore them. Yesterday, they lost in court. We will continue to hold all gambling platforms accountable to the law—and that includes prediction markets.”  The ruling against Kalshi was issued by US District Judge Analisa Torres in the Southern District of New York.  (source: ARS Technica)

Graham Platner Drops Out of Maine Senate Race, Who Are the New Favorites, Latest Odds

Wednesday July 8, 2026 (10:49 pm EDT)

Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate from Maine, Graham Platner, has announced that he is withdrawing from the race following the latest allegation by a former girlfriend, who claims he raped her.  The number-crunchers at BetOnline already have a list of candidates and each's respective odds. There's a heavy favorite in Troy Jackson, but next on the list is actor Patrick Dempsey.  That's right, "McDreamy" from the hit show Grey's Anatomy has the second-best odds to be Maine's Democratic candidate.  Of course, 9/1 odds suggest more of a "darkhorse" than one of the "favorites," but we've seen some crazy upsets in this election cycle.
