British Columbia Welcomes Online Gambling: Launches Website

The Canadian province of British Columbia, long a hotbed for online gambling house marketing operations, has seemingly begun to embrace online gambling.

The Vancouver Sun reported on Friday that the B.C. government on Thursday rolled out its casino games gambling website, becoming the first sanctioned online casino in North America.

Swedish Gambling Sanctions May Be Illegal

(Bloomberg) -- Swedish rules punishing promoters of foreign Internet gambling services may be illegal, the European Union's highest court said.

While Sweden is justified in imposing restrictions on the promotion of games of chance offered abroad and unlicensed gambling services at home, it can't impose tougher sanctions for the promotion of gambling organized outside Sweden, the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg ruled today.

Japan Police Raid Sumo Stables After Gambling Scandal

TOKYO (AFP) - Japanese police raided two sumo stables Wednesday, seeking evidence in their probe of a gambling scandal linked to yakuza crime groups which has rocked the nation's ancient sport.

Police officers in dark suits walked into the Onomatsu and Tokitsukaze stables in Tokyo, where wrestlers have been involved in illegal gambling on baseball games and other sports, footage by public broadcaster NHK showed.

The police were expected to raid some 30 locations linked to the sumo world, including other stables, where wrestlers live and train.
