Tulsa Fires Athletic Director Over Gambling Probe

TULSA, Okla.— (Associated Press) - Tulsa athletic director Ross Parmley was fired Tuesday, a week after he was named in a federal investigation of a man accused of running a gambling operation in Oklahoma City.

Tulsa President Steadman Upham released a letter to students and faculty of the private university Tuesday night, saying Parmley "admitted he had not been truthful" about his role in the mess when he told him in October 2011 that he was cooperating in an FBI investigation.

UK Putting Restraints on Internet Gambling Firms

The United Kingdom, long a hotbed for Internet gambling firms, has drafted a gambling bill that would tighten current regulation.

The bill would require overseas operators to inform the Government about suspicious betting patterns. 

A 2005 bill enabled companies operating in Gibraltar and the Isle of Man to obtain a gambling license from the UK as well as advertise there.

Zynga Restructures Agreement With Facebook: Closer to Offering Real Money Poker

Full Tilt Poker Executive Director Accused in Ponzi Scheme Settles With DOJ

Rafe Furst, one of three individuals accused of orchestrating an elaborate ponzi scheme while on the Board of Directors of Full Tilt Poker, has settled with US law enforcement and will now surrender his Swiss bank account and pay a $150,000 fine. 

In return the US Government has dropped the civil money laundering penalty of $11,706,323.96.  A portion of those funds are contained within the Swiss bank account.

‘Killing Them Softly’ Gambling Flick With Brad Pitt Opens Friday

The long awaited mob gambling flick “Killing Them Softly” finally opens in theatres Friday.

It’s a film about American crime directed by Andrew Dominik based on the 1974 novel Cogan's Trade by George V. Higgins and stars Pitt along with Ray Liotta and James Gandolfini.

Casino mogul Steve Wynn toured a proposed new locale for a casino in Everett, Massachusetts, referring to the region as a “natural for a casino”.  He should know. 

“It seems like a natural place for another great hotel,” said Wynn, whose properties include the Wynn Resort, Bellagio and Mirage in Las Vegas. “We may be a very positive addition to Everett. But we’re very early in this process.”

Tulsa Notifies NCAA Regarding Gambling Athletics Director: Probe Launched

As reported earlier in the day Wednesday by Gambling911.com, University of Tulsa Director of Athletics Ross Parmley has been suspended after being linked to a local bookmaker charged with running an illegal gambling operation.

Powerball Jackpot Now Up to Record $500 Million

Wednesday night’s Powerball jackpot drawing could result in a record $500 million win….assuming someone has the winning ticket (tickets). 

Saturday’s drawing for $325 million did not result in any winning tickets. 

For the 15th consecutive time, no players matched the winning numbers, which were 22, 32, 37, 44, 50 and Powerball 34.

Befair Leaving Greek Market Following New Gambling Regs

LONDON (Reuters) - Online gambling exchange Betfair said it would withdraw from the Greek market until there was greater clarity on gaming regulation in the country.

Betfair, which has not yet applied for a permit to operate in Greece, questioned the cost and conditions attached to permits required by gaming firms to trade in the country.

"According to legal advice received, the value of these permits is unclear and we consider the gambling legislation in the country to be inconsistent with European law," Betfair said on Monday.

Powerball Jackpot Reaches $425 Million With No Winner Saturday

DES MOINES, Iowa (Associated Press) — Lottery officials say nobody has won the Powerball jackpot and the top prize will now increase to about $425 million for the next drawing, the largest jackpot ever for the game.

Iowa Lottery spokeswoman Mary Neubauer said sales were strong over the holiday week for Saturday's drawing, which was estimated at $325 million before the numbers were picked. That was the fourth-largest jackpot in the game's history.
