Coco Poker Open at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek Sept 25 to Oct 6

COCONUT CREEK, Fla  - The Coco Poker Open will begin a 12-day run at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek on Thursday, September 25, at 7 p.m. in the Pavilion.

The $1 million guaranteed Coco Poker Open Championship, October 2-6, will feature three starting days, 30,000 in chips, and follows the popular structure from Seminole Casino Coconut Creek’s February tournament series.

Gamblers Sue Foxwoods for Over $3 Million Over Unpaid Winnings

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut — (Associated Press) - Three gamblers have filed a lawsuit against Foxwoods Resort Casino alleging the eastern Connecticut casino failed to pay them more than $1.1 million that they won in a table game in 2011 and didn't give them back a $1.6 million deposit they put down to cover any losses.

The Day of New London reports that the gamblers filed the lawsuit in federal court in New Haven July 31, seeking $3 million in damages. The plaintiffs are Chinese nationals Cheung Yin Sun of Las Vegas and Long Mei Fang and Zong Yang Li of Los Angeles.

Mobster With Alleged Ties to Al Sharpton Arrested

A mobster who made headlines recently for his ties to MSNBC host and activist Reverend Al Sharpton has been arrested.

Daniel Pagano, 61, of Ramapo, was arrested on racketeering and conspiracy charges involving gambling. Prosecutors claim Pagano is a captain or “capo” in the nationwide Genovese crime family.

Revel Casino Bankruptcy Hearing Postponed Until Next Week

ATLANTIC CITY – (Associated Press) - The bankruptcy auction of the troubled Revel casino hotel, which had been scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed until next week.

Lawyers for the casino said in a court filing Wednesday night that they had received multiple bids for the casino by Monday's deadline and needed additional time to review them.

The auction was rescheduled for 9 a.m. next Thursday.

Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian said last month that there were six potential buyers for the casino, but none of the potential bids have been outlined.

Bill to Legalize Online Poker in California is Dead in the Water for 2014

One of two bills introduced to legalize online poker in California has been pronounced dead for this year.

Democratic state Senator, Lou Correa of Santa Ana, a co-sponsor of the bill, said it needed to be shelved as there was not enough time left in the legislative session to get it for a vote. 

Think the US Congress is bad taking off the entire month of August and a portion of September?

The California legislature not only takes off in August, they take off the rest of the year.

California Broker Ordered by SEC to Pay Back $9 Mil Used for Gambling Debts

The Securities and Exchange Commission has ordered a California broker and investment adviser, John Thornes, to pay back approximately $9 million in fines (including $280,000 in interest) after it was determined he had stolen some $4.4 million from the trust of an 80-year-old client to pay off gambling debts.

Thornes also stole from a deceased man’s trust that was set up to fund college accounts, according to the SEC complaint.

Vacation homes, luxury cars and chartered private jets were also paid for with the stolen funds.

Trump Sues to Get Name Off of Atlantic City Casinos Including Taj Mahal

ATLANTIC CITY – (Associated Press) - Donald Trump is suing an Atlantic City, New Jersey, casino company, trying to force it to drop his name from its two gambling halls.

Trump tells The Associated Press he wants his name stripped from the Trump Plaza and the Trump Taj Mahal because their owner, Trump Entertainment Resorts, has failed to maintain them properly.

Trump says in a lawsuit filed Tuesday the poor condition of the casinos is hurting his personal brand.

Trump Entertainment Resorts has declined to comment.

SBOBet.com Center of Paul Phua World Cup Betting Probe: Not Guilty Pleas Entered

Poker pro Paul Phua and his son Darren appeared in a federal court on Tuesday to answer to charges they ran an illegal gambling business out of the $25k a night Caesars Palace villas via the popular Asian handicapping betting site SBOBet.com.  Phua and six others are set to be arraigned on August 7.  The father-son-tandem may be deported back to their native Malaysia.  Both men pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.

MGM Shares Gaining Tuesday Following Big Earnings Win News

MGM shares rose as much as 2.5% on news that the gambling resort raked in more cash in Vegas thanks to higher occupancy rates, loftier room prices and a stronger percentage of gambling wins.

The company enjoyed a per-share profit of 21 cents during the second quarter of this year following a lagging start.

MGM also owns the Mirage, Luxor and Mandalay Bay.  Occupancy rates in those establishments were up 96% the last quarter, while average room rates rose to $141 from $134.

Congressman Chaka Fattah Son Indicted for Bank Fraud, Used Funds for Gambling

PHILADELPHIA (Associated Press) — The son of Philadelphia congressman Chaka Fattah has been indicted and charged with bank fraud, tax evasion and misspending federal education funds.

The federal indictment unsealed Tuesday accuses Chaka Fattah Jr. of lying about his income to obtain more than $200,000 in business loans he then spent on personal expenses, gambling debts and legal fees.

He is also charged with inflating expenses related to federal funds he received for a charter school program for at-risk students.

Macau Casino Workers Want Bigger Piece of the Pie

(Reuters) - Disgruntled casino workers are becoming a costly thorn in Macau's side.

As the Chinese territory races to build eight new resorts in the next three years, labour strains look set to intensify: workers are demanding higher pay and threatening strikes at a time when operators face a labour shortage.

Las Vegas kingpins Sheldon Adelson at Las Vegas Sands Corp and Steve Wynn at Wynn Resorts Ltd together reported unexpected costs of $50 million last quarter for labour-related compensation at their Macau casinos.

New Jersey Residents May Not Want Casinos Outside of Atlantic City

TEANECK, N.J. (Associated Press) - A new poll found that half of New Jersey residents oppose opening casinos outside Atlantic City.

The idea is being promoted by some lawmakers as a way to raise money that would go to Atlantic City, where casinos are struggling.

Fairleigh Dickinson University's PublicMind poll released Monday found that 50 percent of New Jersey adults oppose the idea of opening gambling halls outside Atlantic City, while 42 percent favor the idea.
