Argentina’s Matias Ruzzi has beaten a staggering 2,560-strong field to take down the €1,100 Estrellas Main Event for €198,550. The event was the largest live freeze-out tournament in PokerStars history with a prize pool of €2,483,200 and 383 players paid.

Ruzzi, 28, has now exactly doubled his lifetime tournament winnings and jumps from ninth to fourth in Argentina’s all-time money list at $USD 526,326. However, a deal made when there were four players in the final means that runner-up Vladislav Donchev from Russia takes home a significantly bigger pay-out of €278,500.

Vaughn Perry, 40, of Cleveland, Ohio, has been indicted for cheating over 100 times at the popular Horseshoe Casino.  The charges include grand theft and 139 charges of illegal gambling. 

The grand theft charge alleges Perry had illegal winnings of $8,240.

Plans for New Jersey Gambling Unveiled

(Associated Press) - Developments about the future of gambling in New Jersey came out of Atlantic City, Trenton and the Meadowlands on Tuesday.

— MEADOWLANDS CASINO ... AND MONORAIL

Business leaders laid out plans to transform the Meadowlands into a multi-venue entertainment district, with casinos, hotels, a convention center and even a monorail. Jim Kirkos, head of the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce, said the goal isn't to build a new Atlantic City. He and others say the upside is huge, given the millions of people within a short drive.

GBGA Takes Legal Action to Challenge 'Illegal' British Gambling Law

The Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association {GBGA) has filed a legal challenge against a law introducing a new gambling licensing regime in the UK.

The GBGA argues that the new regime, introduced through the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act 2014 and also the guidance and policies of the Gambling Commission of Great Britain, is “unlawful, because it is an illegitimate, disproportionate and discriminatory interference with the right to free movement of services guaranteed by Article 56 TFEU, and is irrational.”

Revel Not Dead Yet: Still Seeks Sale While Losing $1 Mil a Week

CAMDEN, N.J. – (Associated Press) - The troubled Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City still hopes to auction off its property but needs to close to stop big losses, a lawyer for it said.

Attorney John Cunningham said in bankruptcy court Monday that the casino is losing more than $1 million every week, The Press of Atlantic City reported.

“Our earnest hope is that we will have a successful auction,” Cunningham said. “But it takes two to tango. … It may be [that] some of the dust has to settle from the shutdown.”

Wife of Oman Foreign Minister Must Pay Casino £1m

The wife of Oman’s foreign minister is being ordered to pay £1m lost at the Ritz Casino in London.  She has already paid back the initial £2m lost in April of 2012.

Noora Abdullah Mahawish Al-Daher, who is married to the foreign minister of Oman, signed checks in exchange for gambling chips.  Those checks were later dishonored, according to court documents.

Revel Casino Wanted to Close Today (June 18)

ATLANTIC CITY (Associated Press) — If the owners of Revel Casino Hotel had their way, the $2.4 billion resort would have been shut down on Monday.

Revel Entertainment had asked New Jersey casino regulators for permission to close down on Aug. 18. But the state Division of Gaming Enforcement denied the request, eventually prevailing upon Revel to remain open until Labor Day weekend.

Revel’s hotel will close at 11 a.m. Sept. 1, and the casino will shut down at 5 a.m. the next morning.

MO Gov at Center of Ferguson Shooting Incident was First Online Gambling Zealot

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon (D) has come under heavy criticism for his handling of the Ferguson, Missouri police fatal shooting of an unarmed Black teenager and its subsequent protests.

Following the shooting, it took a number of days for Nixon to make an appearance in Ferguson, a St. Louis suburb.  He eventually had to call a state of emergency after some of the protests turned violent.

Whitey Bulger Attorneys File Appeal

BOSTON – (Associated Press) - Former Boston crime boss James "Whitey" Bulger is appealing the federal conviction that sent him to prison for life last year, arguing that he was unable to fully present his defence.
