College Football New Alignments Have Little Affect On Odds

Despite all the craziness involving this past week's new College Football alignments, some of which are still taking place, the online oddsmakers haven't temporarily pulled odds of winning the 2011 BCS Championship.  Sportsbetting.com, for one, has continued to allow wagering.

"Sure it's starting to get ugly, or more pretty, depending on how you look at these realignments," said Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.  "The oddsmakers simply do not believe there will be any impact on which team ultimately wins the BCS Championship."

Teams that are mostly favored are not part of the College Football alignments.  Alabama and Ohio State were both co-favorites at around 5/1 odds.  Boise State was the only other school with single digit odds of winning the 2011 BCS Championship.

Nebraska's odds should improve though since they lose rivals such as Oklahoma and Texas.  Currently their odds were set at +1400 or 14/1 and there is definitely some early value as Gambling911.com anticipates this number to be slashed.

Colorado's move, on the other hand, is likely to hurt their odds of even coming close to a title or winning in their respective conference.

"Really the only beneficiary in terms of a potential win on the field appears to be the Nebraska Cornhuskers," says Shapiro.  "Most of these teams should fare well in regard to their pocketbooks however."
