BetDSI Sportsbook opened Super Bowl LII odds with the New England Patriots listed as 6-point favorites versus the Philadelphia Eagles. The game total surfaced at 47.5. The moneyline (odds to win straight up) opened Patriots -240, Eagles +200.

Early action from professional bettors drove the spread down to Patriots -5, but it has been bet back up to -5.5. The total is now 48.5.

“There aren’t any players other than quarterbacks that impact the spread from an oddsmaking standpoint. However, if Rob Gronkowski is not cleared for this game due to a concussion, the betting public will react and we will adjust the odds accordingly. He is certainly a big part of the offense, but we all know they can win without him.”

This is the largest Super Bowl spread since Super Bowl XLIII when Pittsburgh was a 7-point favorite over Arizona. The last five Super Bowl underdogs of +3 or greater have covered the spread, and four out of five won the game outright.

The Patriots are the first team in NFL history to play in 10 Super Bowls.

Philadelphia is trying to become the first team since the 2013 Baltimore Ravens to win three straight NFL Playoff games as underdogs.

Nick Foles will aim to become the 10th backup quarterback to win a Super Bowl. Five of the previous nine backups to do so replaced an injured quarterback.

The last backup quarterback to win the Super Bowl was Tom Brady in Super Bowl XXXVI versus the St. Louis Rams.

NFL betting used to be built mostly around teams. Bettors looked at spreads, totals, moneylines, injuries, weather and coaching matchups. Those pieces are still there, but the modern football betting board is much more player-driven than it used to be.
