Carrie Stroup here and our friends at Sportsbook.com have just released Oscar betting props for 2014.

The main prop of interest involved the OVER/UNDER number of people who will tune into watch this year’s Oscars.

Despite how boring this awards show can be, people still feel inclined to watch it.

Sportsbook.com has the OVER/UNDER set at 40.5 million with the OVER paying $15.50 for every $10 bet and the UNDER paying $12 for every $10 bet.

The initial prop bet offerings asks whether specific films will win either a Best Film Oscar or in one of the Best Acting categories.  Here you can find odds on whether a film or actor/actress does not win and the payout would be substantial with an update (i.e. Cate Blanchett).

One of those: Will “Wolf of Wall Street” win an acting Oscar?  The payout would be $35 for every $10 bet.  It’s probably best to just wager on the Best Actor category, which pays about the same for Leonardo DiCaprio.  While he’s a long shot to win in that category versus Matthew McConaughey as the favorite, DiCaprio actually has a shot.   McConaughey is not as big a “lock” as one might have thought, coming in at -700 (he is listed at -500 at some sites).

One of our favorite Oscar betting props for 2014 located under the SPECIALS section of the Oscars categories is whether either the Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress winner cries during her acceptance speech.

The Best Actress – most certainly Cate Blanchett – would pay out $25 for every $10 bet should she cry.  The Best Supporting Actress crying pays $11.50 for every $10 bet or slightly greater than EVEN odds.
