The folks here at Gambling911.com have thrown Yours Truly into the 2010 Kentucky Derby betting coverage mix even though I barely know a horse from a donkey.  But what I do know is how to make a delicious Mint Julep, a drink that goes synonymous with the Derby just like those bonnets.

This is our busiest day of the year in terms of overall traffic at Gambling911.com and some of us will be drinking more Mint Juleps than what would probably be considered acceptable at Churchill Downs.  I have already placed my $10 bet on Paddy O'Prado with Dave Stanley over at Sportsbook.com, for those of you wondering who I am betting.  He likes the mud I'm told!

Of course, where I come from - Miami Beach - we refer to the Mint Julep as a Mojito even if mint leaves are hard to find at the local Publix.

Something else that is hard to find is a wooden muddler.  You'll need this to crush the mints just right.  The other necessities are fairly easy to locate at just about any grocery store nationwide.

5 oz. bourbon

3 to 4 mint leaves

1 oz. simple syrup

shaved ice

Cocktail Glasses

Cocktail Shaker

Cocktail Strainer

   Wooden Muddlers

Mint Sprig (good luck finding one of these)

First, place the three to four mint leaves at bottom of mixing glass.

Pour in the syrup with 1 oz. of bourbon.

Use your muddle to crush the mint leaves and mix the bourbon and syrup real nice.  I love mines sweet.

Add the other 4 ounces of bourbon.  I love mines strong.

Let the mixture stand for 3 to 5 minutes.

Strain into a cocktail glass filled with shaved ice.

Garnish with a mint sprig if available.

Serve with a short straw.

AND TIME TO PARTY.  Don't forget your bonet ladies!

Place all Kentucky Derby bets at Sportsbook.com and say "Hi" to Carrie Stroup for me.  Claim your FREE CASH BONUS and get back all your grocery money involved in making these Mint Julep Mohitos.

How We Follow Horse Racing Has Completely Changed

Horse racing has always been a sport built on routine. Certain days meant certain tracks, the form guide landed when it landed, and if you missed a race, you simply caught up later. Following the sport required a bit of commitment, a bit of patience, and often a bit of guesswork.
