In response to the opening weekend of the "end of world" flick 2012, our friends at Sportsbook.com have offered odds on whether the world will indeed end in 2012 as the Mayans have predicted.

If the world does in fact end in 2012, the online sportsbook promises a payout of $1,000,000 for every $1 bet.  Should the world not end you will get paid $1 for every $500,000 bet.

2012 is a 2009 disaster film directed by Roland Emmerich. The film has an ensemble cast, including John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Woody Harrelson.

The film exploits the idea of a global doomsday event coinciding with the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar's current cycle on or around December 21, 2012 (the northern hemisphere's winter solstice).
