Todd Phillips has been announced as the replacement for Director Martin Scorsese of the upcoming Paramount Studios film “The Gambler”.

Phillips is perhaps best known for directing “The Hangover”.

The 1974 original starred James Caan as an English professor with a gambling addiction.  He would go on to receive a Golden Globe nomination for his work.

The updated version has a script written by William Monahan of "The Departed" fame.

Considering “The Departed” ultimately won “Best Picture” at the Academy Awards a few years back, “The Gambler” should be a winner (no pun intended).

A number of gambling-theme projects are currently in production including “Runner, Runner” and “Mississippi Grind”.
