Celebrity accountant Eric Fulton plead guilty to lying to federal agents in regard to his role in laundering illicit proceeds from an illegal gambling operation.

Keith Griffith of the Daily Mail reports that Fulton was charged in connection to a widening probe of illegal gambling ring in California tied to bookie Wayne Nix, a former minor league baseball player.  Fulton has served as accountant for the likes of UFC fighter Conor McGregor as well as A-list actors Chris Hemsworth and Channing Tatum.

MLB legend Yasiel Puig has pleaded not guilty in a related case for his alleged involvement with Nix and faces trial.

This week it was confirmed that California law enforcement is looking into whether certain high level Vegas employees used casino assets to pay gambling debts, specifically comps and promo chips.

Fulton, 59, is alleged to have provided extensive bookkeeping and accounting services to Nix's gambling ring.  He is further accused of using the illicit service to place sports bets on a client of his own firm, Fulton Management.

From the Daily Mail:

The court filings allege that on November 12, 2016 Fulton received an account on Nix's offshore Sand Island Sports gambling site, and on that same date 'placed 14 bets, including three bets on a professional match of a client of The Company [Fulton Management]'.

The charging document does not name the client. The date of the bets is the same date as UFC 205, in which McGregor defeated then-champion Eddie Alvarez at Madison Square Garden in the first-ever UFC bout in New York City.

This story continues to develop.
