I’m shocked that there have only been two MLB manager firings since the regular season ended.
And both departures happened in the AL West—statistically the worst division in baseball this year. Earlier today (October 14), the Houston Astros officially parted ways with Joe Espada. Meanwhile, the Mariners let go of Dan Wilson on the final day of the regular season, before he could even clean out his office!
The oddsmakers at BetOnline Sports & Casino have already opened next-manager odds for the Astros with Brad Ausmus favored to be hired at +250 odds for a payout potential of $250 on every $100 bet.
Ausmus currently serves as the bench coach for the New York Yankees. In his 18-year MLB playing career, Ausmus played as a catcher for the San Diego Padres, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Danny Lehmann and Rocco Baldelli follow with the next-shortest odds at 4/1 and 5/1, respectively.
