Philly Area Bookies Holding Their Own Despite Villanova Top Ranking

Though Villanova entered Saturday night ranked number one in the nation for the first time in College Basketball, Philadelphia area bookies have managed to hold their own thanks to a lackluster record Against The Spread.

They were just 12-10 in terms of covering and had only done so in four of their last six games, this despite having just three losses on the season.

The Villanova fan base is rabid and spread across one of the most populated regions of the United States from Suburban Philadelphia through a wide swath of New Jersey.

The Wildcats ATS record in recent games demonstrates a trend that is now worrisome to regional bookies.  This was demonstrated by a 86-59 rout at DePaul the other night.

The Wildcats have displayed noticeable determination since having their 22-game Big East winning streak end with an 82-76 overtime loss to then-No. 16 Providence Jan. 24 in Philadelphia, the Associated Press noted.

Bookies were initially blindsided by the Wildcats, going 10-5 Against The Spread with one of those recognized by some as a push.

Tuesday night was likely Klay Thompson's last game as a Golden State Warrior.  Next stop?  Orlando, assuming the oddsmakers are correct.
