As an online bookie, you need to know the game better than your players.

March Madness can be tricky because college basketball has its own set of betting rules, but if you can master them then you’ll be rolling in pay per head profits.

This article covers the betting rules and tips for the Big Dance, aka the first round of March Madness, but If you need more help you can download the March Madness Bookie Blueprint from PayPerHead.com right here.

The Big Dance Betting Rules

You need to look for the following when you start analyzing who you should put your money on in the NCAA tournament.

Do a little research and I think you’ll find it pays off.

Positive Things to Look For

●     Experienced point guards or guards that can both score and pass. You will find that guard play is always critical in one game knock out scenarios.

●     Teams that are strong rebounders, specifically on the defensive end. By limiting your opponent to one shot (and hopefully getting more on your offensive end) you will increase your chances to have more points at game’s end.

●     Teams with Head Coaches who have a track record of success in the tournament. These guys seem to always advance even if their team is not as strong as it was in prior year’s.

●     Bet on teams that may be playing the first few rounds close to their home location. Not only is it less travel, but fans are more likely to gobble up tickets and give you much more of a home crowd advantage.

●     Look at the last month or so of the season. Sure a team can get hot for a couple games but if a team has been much improved over a 30 day period than earlier in the year, chances are it will continue.

Negative Things to Look For

●     Be leery of teams with inexperienced guards and/or teams that turn the ball over a lot. Each possession is crucial and the team with the most shots and possessions has the advantage.

●     Teams that are not good rebounders. As mentioned above, you need to get up as many shots as possible to score more points than your opponent.

●     Coaching. On the flip side from above, some coaches do not have a good tournament track record. Do a little research.

●     Playing the first few rounds a long distance from home. This can affect you from a travel perspective but also from a fan base standpoint.

●     What is the last few weeks track record for each team? Some teams played extremely well early in the year but not so well down the stretch or in their conference tournament.

So there you have it, some quick tips to help you understand March Madness betting.
