The San Diego Padres host the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday in the third baseball betting game of their four-game series.  The Padres normally are a very good home team but they have started slowly this season at Petco Park.  They should have the pitching advantage on Saturday though with Tim Stauffer going up against Joe Blanton.

Check out the current line for this game at SBG Global.com.

Blanton did pitch better in his last start for the Phillies as he gave up just two runs and seven hits in seven innings.  Even with that good outing, Blanton’s numbers are still poor. In his last three starts he is 0-1 with a 7.27 ERA. In his career against the Padres, Blanton is 2-1 with a 5.32 ERA.

The Padres turn to Tim Stauffer on Saturday.  He was very good last time out as he threw seven shutout innings against the Cubs.  Stauffer has definitely been a hard luck pitcher though. In his last three starts his ERA is 3.38 but his record is 0-1.  Going back to last year, Stauffer has an ERA of 2.56 in 10 starts but his record is only 3-3. He has not had much luck against the Phillies as in just over nine innings of work he has an 0-1 record and an ERA over 16.

The Phillies have pretty much owned the Padres in San Diego in recent betting seasons. Before this series began the Phillies had won 14 of the last 20 games overall against the Padres and 9 of 10 in San Diego.  The Phillies swept the Padres at Petco Park last season winning three low scoring games. The Padres scored just three runs in the entire series as they were beaten 3-2, 3-1 and 5-0.  The Padres have normally been a low scoring team, especially at home and the Phillies are also a team that goes under the total on the road.

Philadelphia continues to have a favorable schedule to start the season. This road trip is only seven games long and then the Phillies come home for nine straight games.  That means that 20 of their first 33 games this season will have been at home.  The Phillies have taken advantage of that schedule and gotten off to a strong start this season.
