The Professional Fighters League Challenger Series was flagged for its suspicious betting activity and now we know why.
Paula Lavigne and David Purdum of ESPN report that this past Friday's event, broadcast on FuboTV, was promoted as "live" when in reality it was apparently pretaped.
Odds on the Challenger Series moved significantly in favor of each of the winning fighters Friday afternoon ahead of the broadcast, according to Lavigne and Purdum.
U.S. Integrity, a Las Vegas-based company that monitors betting markets, confirmed the next day that this event was indeed pretaped.
"As such, it's very possible that any potentially suspicious wagering activity is indicative of nefarious behavior," U.S. Integrity wrote in an alert obtained by ESPN.
Sportsbooks are investigating, some have already settled bets and The Arizona Department of Gaming is removing the PFL from its wagering catalogue.
