Sports Gambling in New York State Unlikely for 2018

The speaker of the New York State Assembly confirmed this weekend that there is little support at this time for legislation authorizing sports betting in his state, at least not for 2018. SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE

Lawmakers adjourn for the year by week's end. New York State residents will still rely heavily on Daily Fantasy Sports sites, which are regulated by the state, and internationally licensed online sportsbooks.

Bronx Democrat Carl Heastie said Thursday that lawmakers in his chamber have raised "significant issues" about legislation that would allow bets at casinos and on mobile devices.  Further discussion would not take place until the earlist January of next year.

Betting has already started in New Jersey after that state passed a law authorizing sports betting. Many states are expected to follow after the U.S. Supreme Court last month determined all 50 states can now offer sports wagering.
