The final tournament of the adjusted regular season schedule takes place this week with the PGA Tour congregating in Greensboro, North Carolina, for the Wyndham Championship. The top 125 players in the FedEx Cup standings advance to next week’s Northern Trust putting pressure on a few golfers to move up the standings. Some big names already locked into a playoff spot are taking the week off, but with others looking to improve their standing and work on their game this is probably the strongest field we’ve seen at this event.  Our friends at Bookmaker.eu are currently offering a generous welcome bonus when opening an online sports betting account (max bonus $1000).

Brooks Koepka failed to win a third straight PGA Championship and looks to cure the ills of a final round meltdown last week. He headlines the field along with former FedEx Cup champions Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth. However, the betting favorite on the opening line is Webb Simpson, who absolutely owns Sedgefield Country Club landing a third and two runner-up finishes in this last three starts. Odds Analysis

Now that the excitement of the year’s first major is behind us it’s time to get back to work. We don’t have a star-studded lineup like we saw last week, but non-majors rarely do. There is some value at the top of the odds board with Simpson opening as the favorite at +1034. Considering he’s from North Carolina and played collegiately just down the road from Sedgefield, his familiarity with the layout is obvious. Oh, and there’s his play on the course.

Simpson is 10 for 10 at Sedgefield since 2010, including a win in 2011, the first of his Tour career. He’s so fond of the course he even named his kid (Wyndham) after the tournament. Now that’s some crazy stuff. Simpson hoisted the trophy at the RBC Heritage, the second tournament after the restart and his second win of the season, and he signed two 68s for a T37 at last week’s PGA Championship. He’s going to be a popular pick in every market.

What’s the motivation for a guy like Koepka playing? The second favorite is locked into a playoff spot and there’s been a resurgence in his game the last few outings. Well, how about money for one. Also, I’m certain he’s not thrilled with that final round 74 last week that cost him a chance at the PGA Championship three-peat. The game still needs some work and I just can’t get the image of him being worked on by a trainer while lying on the Harding Park grass. I’ll let Brooks work on his game and look for better value.

Unlike last week we’re going to see low numbers. Since Sedgefield started hosting in 2008 it’s been the easiest or second easiest par 70 every year but one. The field amassed a record low 68.17 scoring average in last year’s edition and the last four winners all finished -21 or better.

One player deserving of a look this week is Justin Rose. He was money with the putter at Harding Park gaining 7.1 strokes and an additional 4.1 strokes on approach. He had issues with the driver but still finished ninth. He won’t need the driver as much this week so it’s a good opportunity for him to put it all together ahead of the playoffs.

I may be backing Paul Casey for the wrong reasons but I’m going to do it anyway. He was such a gracious loser last week and he realized he did all he could. It just wasn’t enough. He went 68 or lower in every round at Harding Park to grab a share of second but was outplayed by Collin Morikawa. It was an impressive showing after two MCs and a T67 in his previous three starts. He’s also looking to put a couple of solid tournaments together ahead of the playoffs

Henrik Norlander has become the invisible man on Tour. I think he’ll make his presence known this week. Sedgefield is a good fit for him and he has strong numbers on correlated courses that don’t require a lot of distance. Can he regain the form that produced a T6 at the Memorial and a T12 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic? I don’t think he wins outright, but there is value on alternate markets.

Wyndham Championship Pick: Justin Rose

Top -10 Lock: Webb Simpson

Top-20 Lock: Paul Casey
