They have just one win each on the season but the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles are right in the thick of the NFC East race making their Week 7 Thursday night showdown huge in terms of the standings. With just five wins combined through the first six weeks of the 2020 NFL season the division is a joke, but the winner gets the same chance as any other club once the playoffs begin. The Giants joined the fray by picking up their victory last week, edging another division foe Washington. The banged up Eagles have won seven in a row in the series and they are currently a 4.5-point favorite to extend that run of success.  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600)

Odds Analysis

The Eagles continue to get hit by injuries and that’s caused a shift in the line with the Giants seeing plenty of action at the betting window. Philly hit the board as a 6.5-point favorite only to see the line wagered down to -4.5. The G-Men are also getting some support as the last NFC East team to win a game. They beat the Football Team last week, 20-19, but failed to cover the 2-point line. New York is 3-3 ATS this season. Meanwhile, Philly came within an eyelash of upsetting Baltimore, failing to convert a potential game-tying 2-point try in the final minutes. A fourth quarter rally from down 16 allowed them to get the payout as a 10.5-point dog improving to 2-4 ATS. The Eagles hope to continue a run that’s seen them win seven straight and 11 of the last 12 games over New York. They are 7-5 ATS in that span.

New York Giants

The Giants and coach Joe Judge finally got the monkey off their back with last week’s win over the team formerly known as the Redskins. Like everything with the New York teams, though, it wasn’t easy. A win over the Eagles vaults the Giants right to the top of the standings, but winning back-to-back games has been an issue. In their last 13 games following a victory they are just 4-9 SU and 5-8 ATS.

Not only have the Giants lost seven straight overall in the series, many of the players on the roster weren’t around the last time New York tasted victory in Philly. The Giants last won in the City of Brotherly Love during the 2013 season without even scoring a touchdown. The last four games in that stretch have been decided by six points or less with the Giants going 3-1 ATS.

If the Giants are to make a run in the division they need to be a lot better offensively. Their highest scoring games of the season have come in the last two, so there’s progress, but it’s still not good enough. They totaled just 243 yards against the Football Team and rank last in the NFL in total offense and next to last in scoring. Daniel Jones threw for 122 yards last week and could be without his top receiver as Darius Slayton is recovering from a foot injury.

Philadelphia Eagles

With a lineup consisting of mostly backups in the latter stages of their game with Baltimore, the Eagles nearly rallied for a victory. However, the bottom line is what the win/loss column says so in the end it was just another frustrating game for Carson Wentz and his teammates. Two more important pieces of the offense will be sidelined with Zach Ertz and Miles Sanders ruled out for Thursday.

Injuries have played a role in the decline of Wentz and the offense. DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery and Dallas Goedert have all missed games and the list continues to grow. If there is a silver lining it’s that all of them are expected back at some point. If the Eagles can just tread water until then the second half of the season has a much brighter outlook. Things could be looking up for Thursday’s game with Jackson and tackle Lane Johnson expected to be available.

It’s hard to assess Wentz given all the injuries on that side of the football. You can say it’s been a struggle for him, though. He’s completed less than 59 percent of his passes on the year with nine picks while getting sacked a league-high 25 times. He didn’t throw an interception last week for the first time this season and with Jackson catching balls and Johnson adding a layer of protection, he could breakout against an average New York defense.

It isn’t the most enticing matchup of the week, but two equally bad teams still fighting for a division title actually makes this a competitive contest. The Eagles showed me a lot last week and I still believe Wentz is a solid player despite his dropoff. Jackson’s return will add to the scoring potential and the Giants have shown they can’t score, unless they’re playing the Cowboys. The teams played a number of close games in the past and that trend will continue on Thursday night.

NFL Score Prediction: Eagles 23, Giants 16
