The AFC South takes center stage this week with a matchup between the top two teams when the Indianapolis Colts visit the Tennessee Titans on Thursday Night Football. The teams will play each other twice in three weeks possibly giving clarity to the division race. The Titans enter with a one-game lead following a win over the Bears last week that stopped a two-game slide. The Colts did little offensively in a loss to the Ravens, falling to 5-3 and a game off the pace. Indy looks for its eighth win in the last nine trips to Nashville and will do so catching 2-points on the current NFL betting line.  Bookmaker.eu offers a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600).

Odds Analysis

Teams with winning records separated by a game in the division standings you’d expect a close line, and that’s what have for this AFC South matchup. Tennessee hit the board as a 1-point favorite with action on the home team forcing the line up to -2. The Colts took a 2-game winning streak into their biggest test of the season and lost outright 24-10 as a 1-point favorite to Baltimore, their third ATS loss in four outings. The Titans ended a two-game skid with a 24-17 payout over Chicago, improving to 6-2 SU and 3-5 ATS. Indy can tie for the top spot in the division by continuing a recent run of success in Nashville. The Colts have won two straight and seven of the last eight games on the road against Tennessee going 6-2 ATS in that span. The OVER is 4-1 in the last five of those meetings.

The addition of Philip Rivers was supposed to make the Colts a more dangerous offensive team. Instead it’s been the defense leading the charge. The group did its best last week holding Lamar Jackson and the explosive Ravens to 55 total yards in the first half. Indy leads the NFL surrendering just 290 yards per game and at some point will need the offense to chip in, especially against the better teams in the league.

Of Indy’s five wins four have come against teams currently with a losing record and a combined ledger of 8-24-1. The exception was a Week 4 takedown of Chicago, which is currently riding a three-game losing streak. So the question remains, just how good are the Colts? Two turnovers against the Ravens proved costly. The defense didn’t allow a point in the first half of that game yet the Colts held just a 10-7 lead. The offense flatlined in the second half going scoreless and Baltimore gained traction for the victory.

The Ravens’ defense harassed Rivers leading to a season-low completion percentage. It probably didn’t help that T.Y. Hilton missed the game and Jack Doyle exited with a concussion. Those two are questionable to play on Thursday given the short turnaround. Even if the Colts don’t score on every possession holding onto the football will help a defense that spent over 33 minutes on the field and wilted in the second half. The Colts were just 2 of 12 on third down and their 38 percent success rate has them 28th in the NFL.

Tennessee Titans

At some point Tennessee’s luck might run out. Five of their six wins have been by seven points or less with the margin in those games just 19 points. That trend continued last week with a 24-17 win over Chicago, though the game shouldn’t have been that close. The Titans had a 24-3 lead in the fourth quarter before two late touchdowns made it close. Still, winning close games is the mark of a good team and the Titans rebounded from a two-game slide to reclaim first place in the division.

We’ve seen some regression in the offense, a bad sign facing heading into a game against the No. 1 overall unit. The Titans totaled 228 yards against Chicago with Derrick Henry held to 3.2 yards per carry on 21 attempts. After topping the 30-point mark in four straight games earlier in the season, the Titans failed to score more than 24 points in any of their last three.

One thing keeping Tennessee atop the division is their ability to create turnovers. Recently acquired Desmond King returned a fumble for a touchdown in the Chicago game and the Titans lead the NFL with a plus-10 turnover differential. They have multiple takeaways in five of their eight games played.

We saw the Titans struggle mightily to move the football against Chicago’s defense and Indy’s group is equally talented. And one thing the Colts have done well under Frank Reich is respond to a double-digit home loss. In the last six such games they are 5-0-1 ATS. Look for Indy’s offense to be more poised and Rivers to be more accurate with his throws. Limiting turnovers will help the Colts get an outright road victory.

NFL Score Prediction: Colts 24, Titans 20
