For the second week in a row, the No. 24 Louisville Cardinals played a ranked matchup as they faced the No. 21 Pittsburgh Panthers on the road.  And for the second straight week, they managed to lose. Ahead of this game, the Cardinals dropped six spots after losing at home to then-No. 17 Miami by 13 in their ACC opener last Saturday.  The Cards lost to Pittsburgh 20-23.

These conference foes hadn't  met since 2015 when the Panthers won at home 54-34. Louisville won in Pittsburgh in 2012, their first road win in the series since 2006. All-time, Pittsburgh now leads the series 10-8 as they have met in both the ACC and Big East.
