Licensed NJ Sports Betting Companies Can Now Use AdWords, Affiliates Cannot

Google Adwords began allowing licensed sports betting companies in New Jersey to advertise and, as such, appear on top of search.  Other states that license sportsbooks could soon be displaying similar Adwords listings.

From Gambling.com:

Only licensed New Jersey gaming operators are allowed to apply for Google AdWords in New Jersey after the parent company posted its first guidelines for American gambling entities this spring.

Harrison said that, “all who have been granted a license in New Jersey and are operating have applied” and subsequently accepted for the service. He added that Google is currently not accepting applications from affiliates and aggregators.

The process from submission to appearing in searches generally last one to three days for companies such as FanDuel, DraftKings and PointsBet.

Yaniv Sherman, 888’s SVP head of commercial development, told investors during an earnings call that utilizing the service “creates a competitive edge, and it broadens the marketing pie for us to choose from.”

Licensed NJ affiliates will not be able to partake in Google Adwords in the Garden State at this time.

CT Governor Determined to Get Sports Betting Legalized

Connecticut’s two federally recognized tribes have rejected Governor Ned Lamont’s pitch for a grand bargain that would legalize sports betting and place a tribal-owned casino in Bridgeport without litigation from MGM.

The tribes want to construct a casino in East Windsor to compete with MGM Springfield.

“We’ve had ongoing conversations with the tribes since the first day I came into office, either me or my staff doing this,” Lamont told reporters. “Look, let’s face it: the gambling, the internet gambling, the sports betting, that’s all been stuck for many years in the state, and I’m looking around at the rest of the country, I’m looking at our neighboring states and they’re beginning to move ahead. So I’ve got to find a solution that allows us to move ahead.”

Talks are tentatively scheduled to resume later this week.

The question remains whether the Governor will pursue sports wagering with the possibility of a legal fight between the tribes and MGM.
