Another top-10 battle with major SEC East and College Football Playoff implications takes place Saturday when the No. 8 Florida Gators take on the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs in Jacksonville, Florida. Each side has suffered one defeat this year and the loser will have its CFP chances seriously impacted. We’ll also see which team’s strength prevails. The Gators chiseled off some rust from a lengthy COVID-related delay by spanking Missouri 41-17 while the Dawgs held Kentucky out of the end zone in a 14-3 triumph. Georgia opened as a 4-point favorite with the total set at 54.  Bookmaker.eu is offering a generous welcome bonus (max bonus $1600).

Odds Analysis

One of a few remaining neutral site rivalries in college football, the game will again take place in Jacksonville with Georgia owning a three-game SU and ATS winning streak in the series. UGA hit the board as a 4-point favorite with the number since wagered down to -3.5. The Dawgs bounced back from their lone loss by playing inspired defense against Kentucky, though they failed to cover the 17-point spread in the 14-3 victory. It was their second straight setback against the line moving them to 2-3 ATS. A three-week layoff didn’t appear to hinder Florida. A scheduled off week and a cancellation due to COVID altered the schedule, but the Gators came out firing in a payout 41-17 win over Missouri. Over their last 11 games when getting at least 3-points on the line the Gators are 2-9 SU and ATS.

Florida Gators

It’s not easy taking three weeks off in the middle of a season. How the Gators played after the break was even more impressive. It took them a while to get warm, but once they did it was lights out for Missouri. Offense has certainly been the team’s strong area this year with Kyle Trask leading the seventh-best passing offense by averaging 335.3 yards per game. Florida has as many weapons in the passing attack as Alabama, which routed Georgia just a few weeks ago.

Kyle Pitts is a matchup nightmare for any defense and the Gators exploit his size and athleticism. The tight end leads the club with 355 receiving yards and is tied with Kadarius Toney with a team-best 22 receptions. The duo has combined for 13 scoring grabs leading an offense that scores 42 points per game, 10th best in FBS.

The key for Florida is its defense. The group was gouged by Texas AM giving up a season-high point total and 543 yards in the 41-38 loss. Over the first three games the Gators surrendered 6.3 yards per play. The unit was vastly improved against Missouri giving up a total of 248 yards and 3.9 yards per play.

Georgia Bulldogs

This is a strength vs. strength matchup with Georgia owning one of the top defenses in the country. Like I mentioned, though, the Dawgs had no answer for Alabama’s weapons. Mac Jones threw for 417 yards and four touchdowns and Najee Harris ran for 152 yards as Bama amassed 564 yards of total offense, the only time a Georgia opponent produced more than 280 total yards. Even with that outing the Dawgs have the fourth-best run defense, 13th-best total defense and yield only 16.2 points per game.

One game after getting scalded by Bama, the Dawgs found their bite against Kentucky holding the Wildcats out of the end zone while allowing only 229 total yards. UGA has held three opponents to 10 points or less while giving up fewer than 235 total yards in their four victories. The Dawgs can also bring the pressure with multiple sacks in every game and 17 for the season to lead the SEC.

Georgia will likely need to score more than the 14 points it put up against Kentucky and if Zamir White can’t get free the Dawgs will be in trouble. In most cases the defense and running game would be enough, not this week. White shouldered the load against the Cats with 136 yards and a touchdown on 26 rush attempts. He had more yards on the ground than Stetson Bennett had through the air. Bennett threw 13 passes for 131 yards and was intercepted twice giving him five picks in the last two games.

Bet Florida vs. Georgia at BookMaker.eu

Hopefully for the Dawgs they learned from their debacle against Alabama. The ferocious defense was shredded and the Gators have as many weapons in the passing game. The difference is Florida isn’t as a adept running the football allowing Georgia to concentrate on the pass. And there are enough holes on Florida’s defense for UGA to take advantage of making the OVER a smart play. This one can go either way, but I’m siding with the better defensive team and will give the points.

CFB Score Prediction: Georgia 30, Florida 26
