  • Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 47 points in a win over Portland
  • It’s been a streaky season for the Bucks, but they’ve had more positive streaks than negative ones
  • Warriors lost seven of their last eight games to drop further off the pace
  • The line on this game was not yet available overnight

Giannis Antetokounmpo is making a strong case for another MVP award, and he squares with another two-time winner in Stephen Curry when the Milwaukee Bucks take on the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night. Antetokounmpo scored 47 points in a win over Portland earning a well-deserved day off. Even his absence couldn’t prevent a third straight win as the Bucks downed Sacramento for their third straight win on a season-long six-game road trip. And speaking of the road, the Warriors came up empty on their three-gamer and hope some home cooking can get them back in the win column.

Odds Analysis

It’s been a streaky season for the Bucks, but they’ve had more positive streaks than negative ones putting them near the top of the Eastern Conference standings. Several times this season they’ve followed extended losing streaks with a bunch of wins. Back in February they lost five straight only to win the next five and 13 of 14. They recently endured a three-game skid only to win the next three. Giannis had a monster game in a 127-109 pounding of Portland Jrue Holiday took over the next game scoring 33 points to beat Sacramento. As they continue to fight for the top spot in the East, the Bucks will be a big road favorite against the slumping Warriors, who have lost three straight and seven of their last eight games going 1-7 ATS in that span. The teams met in the first week of the season with the Bucks posting a 138-99 victory earning the payout as a 9.5-point favorite.

Milwaukee Bucks

Having the best record in the conference isn’t something the Bucks are striving for, at least not publicly. It would be a wise move for them to take the top spot with the East being so top heavy. It’s turned into a three-team race with the Bucks 1.5-games behind Philadelphia and Brooklyn entering the week. The club that finishes first would have to play only one of the others in the playoffs if things go according to plan. The Bucks aren’t going to ruin their team for a better seeding, though. With Giannis nursing a sore knee, the two-time reigning MVP sat out the last game against Sacramento. That was a huge deal after The Freak lit up Portland for 47 points making 18 of 21 shots.

The Bucks are probably more balanced this season than they were in the previous two campaigns, which is saying something since they had the best record in the NBA. However, that regular season success didn’t translate in the postseason. The acquisition of Holiday was viewed as a key to the team getting over the playoff hump. It’s been a wild season for Holiday, who missed time earlier this season due to COVID protocols. With Giannis out of the lineup on Saturday, Holiday took over scoring a season-high 33 points with 11 assists and seven rebounds in the 129-128 win. “He wasn’t going to let us lose,” Mike Budenholzer said of Holiday.

Golden State Warriors

What chance the Warriors had of making the playoffs is quickly fading. They’ve lost seven of their last eight games to drop further off the pace and instead of the young team getting better as the season progressed, they appear to going the other direction. That’s infuriating Steph Curry, who has done his best to keep the team at least close to .500. Curry scored 37 points in the most recent setback, 117-111 to Atlanta on Sunday. The skid has the Warriors a season-worst four games below .500 with no end in sight considering the club continues to make the same mistakes.

At least the game in Atlanta was closer than the embarrassing showing in Toronto when the Dubs lost by 53 points. They didn’t have Curry or Draymond Green in that one, but it wouldn’t have mattered. The Warriors are 1-7 ATS in their last eight games and are hopeful a return to the Bay Area can change the direction of their season. They are 14-9 SU and 13-10 ATS in their gym this season. However, they’ve dropped three in a row to the Bucks at home going 1-2 ATS.

With a few days off to rest his achy knee there’s a good chance we see Antetokounmpo back on the floor on Tuesday. And that’s not a welcome sight for the Warriors. Giannis had just 15 points when the clubs met earlier this season and the Bucks won 138-99. Imagine what happens when he’s on the floor.

NBA Score Prediction: Bucks 119, Warriors 106
