Betting on College Football in Mississippi

With sportsbooks opening in the state of Mississippi in both Tunica and Biloxi, the demand for betting on sports, especially College Football, is quite high.  More specifically, wagering on the SEC in College Football is likely to outpace NFL.  Online betting College Football and other sports will only be available via internationally-licensed sportsbooks outside the desigated Mississippi casinos, so you will still be able to bet from your home with these sites.  Wagering on Mississippi schools is permitted at sportsbooks in the state.

These sportsbooks have their advantages: Convenience, the overall experience of being in a physical sportsbook, and fast payouts at the counter.  But unlike their counterparts online (the internationally-licensed sportsbooks), Mississippi will not be allowing mobile or online sports betting outside the casino establishments proper and you'll also need to be 21 or older (its 18 and up at the offshores).

The Mississippi sportsbooks enjoyed brisk business their first ever Week 1 of College Football.

Unlike in Vegas, betting sheets here are, not by sport, but by College Football conferences.

“They don’t have these in Vegas,” says George Cole, the Imperial Palace’s sports book director. “SEC football—it’s where the action is here.”

“This is SEC country,” says Danny Sheridan, a longtime sports betting analyst who lives in Mobile, Ala. “They’re going to bet it like there’s no tomorrow.”

Mississippi, sports betting revenue will be taxed at 8 percent by the state and at up to 4 percent by local governments, so this is passed down to the gamblers, whose winnings are reported to the IRS.  The offshore sportsbooks do not impose taxes or report them to the IRS.  That process is left up to the individual.

Fantasy Rankings Are Now Part of NFL Betting

NFL betting used to be built mostly around teams. Bettors looked at spreads, totals, moneylines, injuries, weather and coaching matchups. Those pieces are still there, but the modern football betting board is much more player-driven than it used to be.
