Recent Performance

The Cubs have won four of their last ten, as have the Cardinals (as of May 31).

Saturday's Pitching Matchup

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs LH Jose Quintana (4-4, 3.73 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Jack Flaherty (4-3, 3.77)

Quintana allowed season highs of six runs (five earned) and 12 hits across 5 1/3 innings last Sunday in a 10-2 loss against Cincinnati - his third straight defeat. The 30-year-old Colombia native gave up just eight runs combined in his previous four starts over 23 2/3 innings, but owns a 5.11 ERA in five road appearances. Paul Goldschmidt is 6-for-11 with two homers versus Quintana, who earned his last win May 5 against St. Louis with six innings of two-run ball.

Flaherty has strung together three straight quality starts, including last Sunday when he limited Atlanta to three hits over six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in a no-decision. The 23-year-old California native, who boasts 65 strikeouts over 59 2/3 innings combined, has yielded three or fewer earned runs in six straight outings. Rizzo is 5-for-9 with a homer against Flaherty, who gave up three runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Cubs on May 3.

Friday's Odds

St. Louis is -125.  The total was set at 9.

Friday's Starting Pitcher Matchup

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Yu Darvish (2-3, 5.40 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Miles Mikolas (4-5, 4.76)

Darvish has yet to get a decision in five starts this month, but the Cubs have won three of them including Saturday when he allowed six runs over seven innings in an 8-6 triumph. The 32-year-old Japan native gave up three homers last time out and has struggled with control all year, issuing 38 free passes across 55 innings. Jose Martinez is 2-for-2 with a double and a homer versus Darvish, who permitted five runs over four innings against the Cardinals on May 4.

Mikolas has suffered the loss in three straight outings, but posted two quality starts in that stretch including Friday when he limited Atlanta to three runs over seven innings. The 30-year-old Florida native served up two homers in each of his last two trips to the mound after going three straight outings without giving up one. Javier Baez is 3-for-11 with a homer against Mikolas, who was 3-0 with a 1.38 ERA in four starts versus the Cubs last year.

Friday's Outcome

St. Louis wins 2-1.
