Former New York City Governor Andrew Cuomo is staying in the New York City Mayoral race but gamblers give him long odds of actually winning.

Those at Kalshi, the online gambling prediction platform, have his chances at just 16 percent.  That's equivalent to a $525 payout on a $100 bet.

While his odds are better than current mayor Eric Adams (11 percent), they are not remotely close to the winner of the Democratic primary, Zohran Mamdani.  His odds come in at -245.

“The fight to save our city isn’t over,” Cuomo said. “Only 13% of New Yorkers voted in the June primary. The general election is in November and I am in it to win it.”

Some pundits believe Cuomo has loftier goals, such as heading back to the governor's mansion.  Cuomo remaining in the race is likely to cut into Adams support and only help guide Mamdani to a victory, though a lot can change between now and November 4.

Critics of Mamdani’s progressive agenda, which includes higher taxes on the wealthy, have called on donors and voters to unite behind a single candidate for the November election. Instead, Cuomo joins a crowded field that also includes current Mayor Eric Adams, who is also a Democrat running as an independent. These candidates now face a complex task in cobbling together enough voters in an overwhelmingly Democratic city where Mamdani has amassed significant momentum.
