German pro Ole Schemion has won the EPT Sanremo €10,300 High Roller for €265,000, a SLYDE watch – and a virtually unassailable lead in the race to become EPT 10 Player of the Year.
Schemion, only 21 but already #7 on the Germany all time money list with $4.3m in live tournament winnings, first hit the spotlight at last season’s PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino EPT Grand Final when he won three major side events. It was the continuation of a phenomenal run which first started when he took down a €1k EPT Berlin side event €54,200 in Season 7, six months after his 18th birthday.
That was Schemion’s first live cash but now, only three years later, his Hendon Mob page is awash with results, including 28 final tables and nine wins. The 1,086 points he has accrued in Season 10 come from a stunning ten major cashes including seventh place in both the PCA High Roller and Super High Roller (and a cash in the Main), fifth place at EPT Prague, and sixth place in both the Barcelona High Roller and Super High Rollers (plus, of course, a cash in the Main).
He’s no slouch online either and started his career on PokerStars by winning the MTT leaderboard in 2011. He’s made final tables in the Sunday Million, WCOOP, SCOOP and Sunday 500, and took down the Super Tuesday in 2012 for $73,027.
He said: “I’m obviously very happy to win the Sanremo High Roller. It was a very tough field, and a tough final table as well. It was a great tournament and a nice experience to win it. Of course, I was thinking about Player of the Year. I have been playing every event I could possibly play here just to give myself as many chances as I could – and I think the others were doing that as well.”
Schemion’s nearest rivals in the race are (were) Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst and Thomas Muhlocker. Selbst came to Sanremo with the express aim of clocking up POY points. She cashed early on when she was runner-up in the €4,900 PLO event but, with only 15 runners, it wasn’t eligible for points. Muhlocker cashed in the High Roller in 14th place for €17,500 and 73 points.

There were 105 entries to the High Roller creating a €1,029,000 prize pool with 15 paid.
