Online gambling houses are not permitted to advertise or associate themselves in any way with the London Olympics, but that didn’t stop the creative folks over at Paddy Power, the UK’s third largest bookmaker, from trying.

The advert, featured prominently at London, England train stations, proclaimed that Paddy Power was “The Official Sponsor of The Largest Athletics Event in London This Year”

The ad then goes on to mention “London, France”.

Olympics organizers were quick to demand the advertisements be pulled.  Paddy refused and was quick to contact their attorneys.

Paddy Power immediately declared victory on Wednesday:

“In what must be deemed a gold-medal-winning u-turn, London 2012 organisers, Locog, have reversed their position … which demanded the removal of Paddy Power’s latest advertising campaign from poster sites around the Olympic city.

“Coincidentally [the] change of heart by Locog, which was communicated by their law firm, Freshfields, was taken just moments before Paddy Power’s law firm, Charles Russell, were set to enter the High Court in London seeking a court order against the Olympic organisers.”

So what’s the big event to be held in London, France this year?

It’s an egg and spoon race!

We can’t wait to see odds offered on that one.

Paddy Power is offering all sorts of odds on this year’s Olympics including whether the Olympic Village will run out of condoms before the games are over.  Those living in North America cannot place bets at Paddy Power.  Instead, those customers are welcome to wager at Bookmaker.eu here, which has been serving the sports betting community since 1985.
