Caesars Palace sportsbook Director Howard Greenbaum told CNBC on Friday that he anticipates $90 million to be wagered on the 2011 Super Bowl in Nevada alone.  That figure does not include the amount which will be bet at online sports betting sites.

An increase from last year’s $82.7 million was anticipated.  In 2009, $81.5 million had been wagered on the big game.

“The peak amount bet on a Super Bowl was in 2006,” Greenbaum noted.

Numbers have declined a bit in recent years due to the economic crisis.  Online gambling operators have told Gambling911.com that, while individuals continue to place bets, the total wager amounts are way down.

Nevada, while reeling from some of the highest unemployment and foreclosure rates in the country, has managed to stay afloat mostly as a result of its prosperous gambling industry.

The 2010 Super Bowl earned nearly $6.9 million for the Nevada sports books in profits.
