Living in or visiting the state of South Dakota one is bound to see plentiful ads for ESPN Bet, especially when watching games on one of the ESPN affiliated networks.

Sadly, ESPN Bet is not available in South Dakota.  While the state does regulate sports betting, this is only done at designated retail casinos.  Betting on one's mobile device is only available via websites that are based outside the U.S. like our friends at BetUS (in business now for nearly 30 years) or local credit bookies through referrals.

When traveling outside South Dakota, ESPN Bet is available in these states: Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Hollywood Casino is available in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

South Dakota regulated sportsbooks can be found here for in-person wagering:

    Cadillac Jack's Gaming Resort, Deadwood.
    Dakota Connection, Sisseton.
    Dakota Sioux Casino, Watertown.
Gold Dust Casino and Hotel, Deadwood.
Holiday Inn Resort Deadwood Mountain Grand, Deadwood.
    Mustang Sally's Casino, Deadwood.
The Lodge at Deadwood Gaming Resort, Deadwood.

There is a really great niche when it comes to sports betting in the state.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits are one of the best teams in college football today.  The program competes at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision level as member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference.  They went 12-0 in 2023.  The team was so good that they ranked No. 20 to close out the season on the Sagarin Ratings.  That's better than heavyweights like Clemson, USC, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, TCU and more.

The state is also well represented in the Little League World Series in recent years.
