A new sportsbook is set to launch at the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln, with the nearest big city Salem. 1 hour and 30 minutes away.

“We’re expecting it to be pretty busy,” said Will Robertson, Chinook Winds director of casino operations. “There may be lines to get your bets in.”

The Oregon State Lottery is primarily in charge of the state's sports betting foray, and has been long before the US Supreme Court ruled to legalize the activity nationwide.  Oregon was one of four states exempt from decades of prohibition, but the Lottery woefully neglected sports gambling....until now.  And it doesn't look like there is any gold at the end of this rainbow.

In an interview with spokesman Matt Shelby, it was confirmed the agency will not meet its goal of starting up in time for opening of the NFL season.

“It’ will likely be two, three weeks into the season,” when the state sports games are ready, Shelby said. “Testing is going fine,” he said.

For serious sports bettors, these games will likely have little appeal.

While mobile wagering will be permitted statewide, betting on college sports - not just state teams - will be prohibited.  This means a continued reliance on offshore sportsbooks during the College Bowl season and March Madness.

The Chinook Winds sports betting will offer mobile sports betting with betting only available on its property.  The one upside is that Chinook Winds will allow wagering on college games.
