A Henderson, Nevada woman reportedly stole her ex-spouse's car during a heated domestic dispute then drove it to the nearby Sunset Station Casino.
Officers located Allison Howlette parked in a vehicle inside the garage.
Previous to locating Howlette, her ex-spouse had advised that the car was loaded with weapons and that Howlette had hoped for suicide by cop while also plotting a potential mass shooting.
The officers approached the suspect's car with caution.
News 3 in Vegas detailed how the arrest went down.
"Howlette was inside the vehicle with music playing loudly and refused officers’ commands to exit, according to police.
"To prevent her from fleeing, officers used a tactical maneuver to block the vehicle in with patrol cars. Police video showed the suspect asking for water during negotiations while inside the vehicle.
"Police said officers used the request as an opportunity to develop a plan to take her into custody. When she reached for the water, officers gained control of her hand. During the struggle, the suspect was tased once, and officers removed her from the vehicle and distanced her from the firearms before taking her into custody.
"According to police, the suspect was sitting on a handgun and had access to a fully automatic, silenced MP5-style machine gun in the back seat."
Regional partners at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Southern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center were aware that the suspect had aspirations of becoming an active shooter or conduct a mass attack in Las Vegas. During a briefing after Howlette's arrest, police played an audio recording from 2024 that they said was allegedly made by the suspect making a threat.
And she was certainly well equipped to have carried out such an attack.
Police said a search warrant allowed investigators to search the stolen vehicle, where they recovered 22 firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. Investigators also served a search warrant at the suspect’s Henderson home and recovered 30 firearms, police said.
Howlett has been booked on numerous felony charges, including:
- Making a threat related to an act of terrorism
- Assault with a deadly weapon
- Domestic violence-related offenses
- Grand larceny of a vehicle
- Grand larceny of a firearm
- Resisting a public officer with a firearm
- Possession of a short-barreled rifle
