Where Can I Play Real Money Online Poker From Alaska?

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Gambling911.com) - Not only is ACR Poker available for real money poker play to those in the great state of Alaska, the site also offers sports betting, a race book and online casino games.

Alaska, like most US states, does not yet regulate poker.

ACR Poker is among the top five largest online poker networks in the world having first launched in 2001, later becoming Doyles Room with the great late Doyle Brunson (a wonderful remembered friend of the Gambling911.com website) at the helm.

When it comes to land-based gambling in Alaska, the has historically prohibited type of Class III casino gambling. The National Indian Gaming Commission confirms that Class III includes conventional slot machines and games such as blackjack, craps and roulette.  As such, you won't find full service casinos like those in Las Vegas.

What you will find are Tribal/Class II gaming facilities and charitable gaming halls.  These typically feature electronic bingo-style gaming.

As far as poker goes, state law provides an affirmative defense for a player participating in a “social game.” The statute defines a social game as gambling in a home where there is no house player, house bank, house odds or house income from operating the game.

Alaska does not have any explicit laws pertaining to online gambling, but as noted above, the state neither regulates or licenses poker for real money

Alaska's massive size makes the state an ideal location for internet poker play.  It's not like you can drive ten minutes to a nearby casino pretty much anywhere unless you happen to live in Juneau, and even there poker is not available.

Breakdown of Poker Laws in Alaska

  • Private home poker game: Permitted under the social-game protection when everyone plays on equal terms and nobody takes a rake or other house profit.
  • Raked/commercial poker room: Not authorized. Alaska does not have legal commercial poker rooms comparable to Nevada or California.
  • Charitable poker: Alaska's charitable-gaming law doesn't generally authorize playing-card poker; the statute specifically says the charitable-gaming chapter does not authorize playing cards unless expressly permitted.
  • Online poker: Not regulated and no specific laws address playing online poker for real money.

Most Popular Poker Games

Here are popular poker games you will find on ACR Poker with daily tournaments and top guarantees.

  • No-Limit Texas Hold'em — the dominant casino, tournament and online game. It's also the format of the WSOP Main Event and most major tournament Main Events.
  • Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) — Players receive four hole cards and must use exactly two; it tends to generate bigger hands and more action.
  • Seven-Card Stud — historically huge and still an important casino/mixed-game variant, including online. Before the Hold'em boom, Stud was arguably America's dominant casino poker game.  Doyle Brunson considered Chip Reese the best Seven-Card Stud player he had ever played against, which is why Brunson selected him to write the Seven-Card Stud section of Super/System.
  • Five-Card Draw — extremely well known among casual/home-game players, even though you don't see nearly as much of it in modern poker rooms. It was once the most commonly played form of poker in the U.S.
  • Omaha Hi-Lo (Omaha 8-or-Better) — particularly popular with experienced and mixed-game players and readily available online. Omaha Hi-Lo emphasizes the importance of starting hands that have the potential to scoop both the high and low pots.
  • Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo and Razz — much smaller individually, but staples of mixed-game poker.
  • 2-7 Triple Draw — another established mixed-game/high-stakes variant.
  • Big O / Five-Card Omaha — increasingly common, particularly among players who like PLO.
