James Madison is favored slightly to win UNDER 6 regular season games in 2022, courtesy of our friends at BetOnline.

The Dukes enter the FBS as part of the Sun Belt Conference in 2022.  This is a program with a solid fan base and winning ways.  James Madison made regular appearances in the FCS Playoffs.

But this will be a whole new ball game, so to speak.  How fast will James Madison be able to adjust to playing in the FBS?

It should be noted that James Madison is ineligible for a Bowl appearance this season.

Seven starters return and there are plenty from the transfer portal.  It's anticipated the offense will click. James Madison was No. 1 in the Colonial Athletic Association last year.  The Dukes were also known for having one of the nation’s most efficient lower-level passing games.

Cole Johnson is a solid quarterback who had 41 touchdown passes in 2021, along with just four picks, and with 236 rushing yards and six scores.

The defense, while good, loses a number of top players.  They include tackler Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey to Texas.  Last year’s D allowed just 275 yards and 15 points per game with a fantastic pass rush and production everywhere. The Dukes must find a way to accumulate the takeaways and sacks without all the same pieces in place from last season.

The secondary should be in relatively good shape over the course of the season.

Can they hang with the likes of Coastal Carolina?  We won't know until the final week.
