Oddsmakers at BetOnline have BYU winning at least 9 regular season games in 2022. This allows for three losses. In Vegas against Notre Dame, expect the Cougars to be underdogs. They will also be a dog in Oregon. A game in Boise State might be tough to overcome as well.
“All I am focused on is making sure that we perform at our best this season. That’s it. I can’t control anything but that,” head coach Kalani Sitake said. “I think we will have a really good chance for a good season. LaVell (Edwards) used to always say at every press conference, ‘We have a chance to be really good.’
“And for us, we have a chance to be really good, but that is going to (depend) on if I do my job correctly in the next couple of months. We will wait and see.”
Which opponents on this year's schedule will be the hardest to knock off?
Obviously Notre Dame in Vegas will be the one circled.
“Last year we had that (Utah) game circled, even though it wasn’t the opener,” said linebacker Payton Wilgar. “This year is different. For us, it is more about not having any lapses. To see the schedule we have this year, there are a lot of amazing opportunities to compete at the highest level. Being the last year of independence, there is a lot riding on it and another opportunity to go out and show what we can do.”
What to Know Before You Bet BYU Futures
- Last year’s team went 6-1 against the teams from the big leagues, and consider this BYU squad might even be better.
- This team is full of great talent from tackle Blake Freeland to guard Blake Barrington to QB Jaren Hall and Gunner Romney and Puka Nacua, the Cougars should be firing on all cylinders.
- Nearly every key ingredient from their offense is back after putting up a significant number of points last season.
- The team needs to improve on the defensive side however.
- The D allowed 388 yards and 25 points per game, and this won't get them to 9 wins or more if that trend continues.
- Baylor in Week 2 will present a test for the Cougars, though they'll be hosting the Bears.
- Last year, Gerry Bohanon quarterbacked the Bears’ win over BYU. But he’s at South Florida now.
- Coming into this season, Gambling911.com has Baylor as a -6.5 favorite at BYU, but that's based on last season's ratings and doesn't factor in Bohanon's departure. Even still, Baylor would be favored here.
- BYU will be playing Baylor at home, at altitude, on Sept. 10.
