The payout odds for Forte to win this year's Kentucky Derby have been as much as $30 for every $10 bet but were mostly $50 for every $20 bet as of Sunday April 30.  Live betting odds are available to lock in hereBe advised: Forte has been scratched from the race as announced Saturday morning May 6.

Forte's Performance Leading Up to the Kentucky Derby

Forte won his four races leading up to the Kentucky Derby, including two Grade 1 races - the Florida Derby and Breeders Futurity late last year.

Why He Should Win

Two dozen Kentucky Derby winners have been winners of the Florida Derby between the years 1953 and 2017 (65 years).  Forte doesn't seem like a fluke either considering how well he's performed in previous races.

Some books are offering Kentucky Derby winner odds not including Forte.  He's that good.

Post Position Draw Rating

15 - Not really an issue here.  Four winners have started from the No. 15.  One was recent: Authentic (2020); Fusaichi Pegasus (2000); Grindstone (1996); Swale (1984).

Some More Food for Thought

Forte is trained by one of the best in the biz, Todd Pletcher.

It's interesting to note that Pletcher to date only has two Kentucky Derby wins under his belt: Super Saver in 2010 and Always Dreaming in 2017.

Both Forte and his other entry, Tapit Trice (13-2 odds), had their first workouts over the Churchill surface Friday, a week before the big race.

Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., looking for his first Derby victory, said he’s been pleased with Forte’s progression.

“His mind has changed a lot, so I’m happy with that,” Ortiz said. “He’s a little more focused, a little more serious on the track. I think he’s figured out what he has to do. I have a lot of confidence in him, and we’ll see what happens.”

Though Ortiz Jr. does have four Eclipse Awards, he's yet to win a Kentucky Derby.
